Medusa

Medusa is a painting by Italian Baroque artist Caravaggio. Caravaggio's paintings at a time were unusually understated unlike the histrionic styles in the Roman manner of the time. The paintings during this Baroque period helped Caravaggio reach fame with both connoisseurs and his fellow-artists. Caravaggio would need public commissions in order to develop an established reputation and this could only come from the the rich and powerful Church. His Paintings involved in this period included Saint Catherine, Martha and Mary Magdalene, Judith Beheading Holofernes, a Sacrifice of Isaac, a Saint Francis of Assisi in Ecstasy, and a Rest on the Flight into Egypt.
