Hans Holbein the Younger was a German artist and printmaker who worked in a Northern Renaissance style. Holbein is best known as one of the greatest portrait artists of the 16th century. Hans Holbein the Younger is called "the Younger" to distinguish him from his father, Hans Holbein the Elder, an experienced painter of the Late Gothic school. Portrait of Henry VIII is perhaps Holbein's best known oil painting. Holbein's paintings commonly involved the British monarchy, after moving from Germany to London earlier in his career. Anne of Cleaves and Jane Seymour were also captured beautifully in other Holbein paintings.
