Gustav Klimt
Klimt paintings are among the most loved paintings across the world in the modern day. Gustav Klimt was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) movement. His major works include paintings, murals, sketches, and other art objects, many of which are on display in the Vienna Secession gallery. Klimt's primary subject was the female body. Klimt's most famous paintings include The Kiss. Vault Oil Paintings have made Klimt paintings to choose from below, and have many happy customers who've chosen Klimt paintings from our website. Klimt's paintings include his early works which were nature-based with landscapes and flowers gaining prominence. Later came his use of female sexuality and elaborate portraits with colour and detail in abundance, including heavy use of gold in his classic painting, The Kiss.

Gustav Klimt is a unique artist who produced a great array of paintings all worthy of further study and appreciation. Here at Vault, we add new Klimt paintings to the site all the time, as Klimt's art remains popular around the world, not just in his native Austria.
Whilst the Secession Movement is not covered in detail as much as other art movements, such as impressionism and cubism, Klimt retains his own popularity, in a unique form that reflects his individual style. The oil paintings on offer here reflect his whole painting career with different art movements covered as he first learnt his trade, and then found his own style through practice, development and experience. Klimt spent some time travelling to other parts of Europe in order to learn more about other art scenes that were prevalent at the time, including France and Italy.
Gustav Klimt spent much of his time in Vienna and influenced the contemporary art scene of Austria at the time, and he grew in confidence as he met other like minded individuals who shared his artistic vision and beliefs. Like all key artists, Klimt struggled with conservative influences in Austria at the time, but his art has now transcended any difficulties that he experienced at the time, and are appreciated in their own right around the world.
Klimt is best known for depicting women in exciting, elaborate portraits but he also produced some charming natural landscape and local paintings of small gardens and flowers at earlier points in his career. Some of these paintings remain popular with those who have an in-depth knowledge of Klimt's career and have seen beyond his best known works, of The Kiss and Adele Bloch-Bauer. He is also respected for his pencil sketches and drawings which are on show in some publications of his life, but harder to find online. Whilst Klimt produced these different types of works, he will probably always be best known for his glamorous depictions of female sexuality, his use of gold within his art, and his originality that took his art to the summit of Austrian and European Art of the early 20th century.
