Capriote is a famous oil painting by American artist John Singer Sargent. John Singer Sargent's other most famous paintings included Portrait of Madame X, El Jaleo, The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose and Lady Agnew of Lochnaw. Singer Sargent's paintings are believed to have been influenced by Carolus-Duran, Léon Bonnat and Diego Velázquez.
Whilst the art world focused on Impressionism, Fauvism, and Cubism, Sargent practiced his own form of Realism, which made brilliant references to Velázquez, Van Dyck, and Gainsborough. John Singer Sargent's facility for paraphrasing the masters in a contemporary fashion led to a stream of commissioned portraits of remarkable virtuosity
